Down here in the oven…

HOLA FAMILIA! Well things are going pretty good for us here.  It was a little disappointing last week though because Fernando didn’t get baptized.  His wife isn’t liking the idea too much because apparently some people said stuff to her at work about us.  He still really wants to get baptized though so we’ll see if it happens this week.  Hopefully she’ll listen to us so we can help resolve some of her doubts.  The contacting activity we did on Tuesday was really awesome though.  We went downtown and set up a table with pamphlets and church materials and started contacting everyone that walked by.  There were a lot of people out and about because in Mexico it was mother’s day.  So we were able to talk to about 800 people and get about 200 addresses of people that wanted to listen to us.  We visited a few of the people and some of the ones in our area look pretty good.  We all got fried though because we forgot sunscreen and it just happened to be one of the hottest days of the year.  The sun here burns so hot and because we are at like 6000 feet it just burns and doesn’t really tan too much.  But don’t worry I’m usually really good about putting sunscreen on.  Other news of the week is that 2 missionaries got back from their missions from the ward here.  One was in Chihuahua and says that he knows Bryce Anderson and the other served in Monterrey East and knew Michael Hunn really well and as well knows Mathew Hatch.  We actually ate lunch with his family yesterday so he was telling me some stories about Elder Hunn.  It sounds like he is a really hard worker.  Sunday went pretty well for us as well.  We had 19 less active people go to church and 8 investigators.  A 12 year old neighbor girl came with a member to church and she is really interested.  We taught her family a week ago and left a Book of Mormon and when we visited her on Saturday she had already read almost all of 1 Nephi.  I’m pretty sure that is alot further than even some members get to haha.  She saw the baptismal font and said she would like to get baptized so we told her she could in 2 weeks.  Her parents can’t get baptized right now because they aren’t married but she said they would be ok with her getting baptized.  Sunday after church we got together as a zone to organize some of the contacts we made into the different areas and then after we visited some people with the sister missionaries.  We visited the couple that got baptized a month ago that we helped them with.  They seem to be doing pretty good.  It was way cool too because he showed us a kite he had made out of plastic and some bamboo.  He flew it and got it out to 500 meters of string.  I can honestly say I have never seen a kite flown so high.  Well we’ve been just working hard here and have been seeing some success.  We have definitely seen alot of success with the less actives lately so keep praying for us.  Thanks for everything and love you all so much!

Jacob 1:19  “And we did magnify our office unto the Lord, taking upon us the responsibility, answering the sins of the people upon our own heads if we did not teach them the word of God with all diligence; wherefore, by laboring with our might their blood might not come upon our garments; otherwise their blood would come upon our garments, and we would not be found spotless at the last day.”  It’s an important principle to learn that we always need to magnify our callings in whatever it is.  As missionaries we have to do all we do to bring people unto Christ and as members we have to do all we can to help those around us come to Christ because if we don’t we’ll be responsible for it in the last day.
