Good Old Mexico!

November 15, 2010

Hola familia sorry I’m really super rushed today so this letter will be sweet short and to the point haha. This week went well for us. We had 2 really good investigators come to church. One is named Octavio and he is about 23 yrs old and is really accepting to what we teach him. He is even planning on selling his beer store that he has. We found him last Saturday knocking doors. The other who was able to come this week is named Victor. He is in his 60´s and retired but knows something is missing in his life. It was pretty cool how we met him though. Saturday we were out knocking doors and like 8 at night and felt like we should knock this one random street we hadn’t knocked before. We ended knocking his door and he let us in. We started talking and he told us that he was in a Catholic seminary from the age of 12 yrs old to 26 yrs old. So we heard that and thought for sure he was going to planch us (to planch means to iron and its how they say like bash someone here) But he actually listened really well and was really interested so we gave him a Book of Mormon and invited him to church. So we got to church and there he was waiting for us in the parking lot. Sunday was the primary program here and both of the investigators really liked it. The kids all dressed up like missionaries with nametags and everything so that was really cute. But Victor really liked church and we put a baptismal date with him for 2 weeks from yesterday. As well we’ve been teaching this family for like 3-4 weeks but like every Sunday something ends up happening and they have to go to the hospital. At first we figured it was just excuses but really this legitimately happens like every Sunday. The devil really does not want this family to go to church. Today was pretty fun. We went and played soccer and baseball with some kids. The soccer here is a little bit different and the kids are really good haha. They were definitely schooling me and they were all between the ages of 8-14. It didn’t help that I hadn’t played soccer since I was like 8 either haha. The baseball was absolutely hilarious. There wasn’t really a baseball field so we played in just a dirt field. It wasn’t very big either so we played an altered version of baseball and only had 2 bases instead of three so the field was a triangle instead of a diamond. It was kind of different but really fun. I definitely was better at baseball though haha. This week sounds like it will be pretty crazy back home with all the wedding plans in full force. Hopefully it all turns out good. One random comment directed mostly at mom is the sisters here are really awesome. They even wash our clothes for us :) But I have definitely eaten better here than any other area so no worries about that aspect of the area haha.
Ok so the scripture of the week is: Alma 60:21 “Or do ye suppose that the Lord will still deliver us, while we sit upon our thrones and do not make use of the means which the Lord has provided for us?” it is when Moroni writes an epistle to Pahoran kind of chewing him out for not sending enough stuff. This verse says something to the effect of that we can’t just sit on our thrones and do nothing and expect God to free us when we don’t use what we already. There are alot of people that expect God to do everything without any effort from us. When we teach sometimes we put the example that you can’t just pray to God for work and expect a job opportunity to land in your lap, you have to go out and look for a job so that God can bless your work for your benefit. So just remember, faith without works is nothing, and without faith, we don’t have anything so we have to work for what we want or we will end up with nothing. Sorry that’s a little confusing hopefully you get the idea of it.

Well I love you all a ton everyone give Shantelle a hug for me!!!

Alot of times I just have to print them out and read them but know that I’m reading them and looking at all the scrips haha. well, love you all hopefully I have more time next week but who knows what will happen because it is transfers week. love you all.
