Mexico...

Well this week went pretty well for us and was definitely not the average mission week you might say. We went to Leon on Tuesday night but they ended up canceling the bus we were supposed to take got canceled so we ended up having to wait an extra hour and a half to leave so we didn’t get there until like 10:30 because it is a 3 hour bus ride. It was pretty fun in Leon though because there were 4 out of the 5 people that are in our "generation" of elders there. Wednesday we learned alot though and talked about ways to improve our zones and specifically about how to get more people to attend sacrament meeting because as a mission we have been declining as far as the amount of people that come to church. So we talked about how we can focus our teaching more on getting people to attend church. They also talked alot about how as leaders we need to go the extra mile and do as much as we can to be an example for our zones. For the past couple of days we have been trying to focus on putting the example as far as contacts go to try and encourage the zone to contact more. In the 4 days after we got back we contacted just about as many people as our whole zone did combined. So that was pretty fun haha. One thing I have learned as a missionary is that if you want to be happy and not get discouraged you have to work harder and be more obedient and as a result you’ll automatically be happier. Also what was different this week was that on Thursday we got home to our apartment for the night and a couple of minutes later we heard a knock on the door and to our surprise it was the president one of his assistants and another elder. The elder was Elder Scott (who was in my district in Aguascalientes) and got changed here to San Luis. He didn’t go to his area until today though so were in a tri-companionship for a few days with him. It was really good though because we had some awesome lessons together and found some people who we are going to work with this week. He is also probably one of the funniest elders I have met. We were riding in a taxi and he asked the taxi driver if he could use the radio and the taxi driver let him so he started talking on the radio to all the taxi drivers in the city about how he was an American and was trying to find Mexico City but was lost. We had one lesson that was really cool though. There is a part member family that recently got reactivated by Elder Conrad a few weeks before I got here and the dad is not a member and hasn’t ever been to church here. We started talking to him though and he really opened up to us about how he had been on the verge of getting baptized a few years ago in a different city but had been offended by some member and since that day has not wanted to go back to church. We had a great lesson with him though and told him all the blessings that his family would receive if he would just read the Book of Mormon and pray about it. It was way cool though because the next day was Sunday and he came to church with his whole family and stayed for all three hours. Our goal for this week is to put a baptismal date with him. But all in all this week has been another awesome week in the service of the Lord.

Alma 7:23- “And now I would that ye should be humble, and be submissive and gentle; easy to be entreated; full of patience and long-suffering; being temperate in all things; being diligent in keeping the commandments of God at all times; asking for whatsoever things ye stand in need, both spiritual and temporal; always returning thanks unto God for whatsoever things ye do receive.” Something really important in this life is that we need to always work to become more like Christ and this verse has alot of the Christ like attributes that we need to cultivate.
