¡Viva Mexico!

Hola familia, sorry I don’t have very much time to write today because my email was being really dumb and it took me like 45 minutes to log in. But this week has been pretty crazy down here in Mexico. I don’t know if you all know but it was Independence Day here on Thursday and also this year is the 200th anniversary so it was even crazier than usual. We had to be in the house at 8 on Wednesday and Thursday as a precaution as well. It was a little different than 4th of the July here though. I was expecting a firework show or something but I guess that’s more of an American thing. On Friday the branch had their Mexican Night which was really fun. They had some traditional Mexican hymns and dances that they did and the primary reenacted the independence battle and stuff which was pretty funny to watch. It was cool as well though because we were able to bring quite a few investigators including one that we found this week who is really cool. Her name is Angeles and we found her knocking doors on Tuesday. It was kind of random, it was the first door we knocked of the day and she came to the door and we didn’t even really have to convince our way in, she just invited us right in. We started talking to her and it ended up that she has quite a few problems and is having a really hard time dealing with all of them. For one, she lives in a house that was built more than 100 years ago and it is starting to fall down, as well, she has a baby that is about a year old but can’t live with her right now because it is too cold in her house with all the rain and humidity and to top it off, she is really nervous about finding a job and meeting new people because she has been treated badly by some rich neighbors who are trying to take her house because it is on a really valuable lot. But she told us she had been praying and looking for help and then we showed up on her doorstep. What’s more is it ends up that she was childhood friends with one of the members in the branch. She has also accepted a baptismal date so we are planning on baptizing her next week. So yeah miracles really do happen and God really does care for his children. I was grateful to be an instrument in the Lord’s hand in helping her this week. Today, as a district, we are going to go to an exposition of the history of Mexico and the revolution and independence which should be really fun so I’ll be sure to take some pictures and again sorry for not having more time to write but I need go.

Scripture for the week Alma 1:25 “Now this was a great trial to those that did stand fast in the faith; nevertheless, they were steadfast and immovable in keeping the commandments of God, and they bore with patience the persecution which was heaped upon them.” But this scripture talks about the people who stood firm in the faith suffered the patience and were made better. This really is true and when we are firm in the faith even though we have trials, blessings always follow.
