Hola familia, sorry that I’m late in getting my email out, but like I mentioned last week, we had changes today and my companion was transferred to Irapuato and I received a brand new missionary from the MTC! Ok maybe that last part isn’t true but I did receive a new companion named Elder McNeil from Orem, Utah. He has about a year in the mission and is a really cool guy. It looks like we’ll be working really hard this transfer and if we have the faith; we’ll bring some more people unto Christ. There is this really cool family that we have taught few times that is family of a recent convert. They all said that they are going to come with us to church this Sunday and we are going to try and put a baptismal date with them this week. This week went pretty well for us, we had some disappointments though as many of our investigators choose to discontinue listening to us so that was kinda of sad, but I was also able to learn alot this last week. The zone leaders came out to help us out this week for a day and we were able to learn a lot from this experience. They are really focusing hard right now on teaching by the spirit and as well, being worthy of this spirit so we can help our investigators have a deeper conversion that will last through the storms of life that often happen after baptism. I’m really excited to get out and work this week though because I have a feeling that we can really make a difference this week. As well, I’m not sure if you all know up there north of the border, but Mexico’s bicentenario is coming up in about 2 weeks and the area I am in is the heart of were the independence war took place. So the city is getting ready to party haha so this next little while could be a little interesting here in Guanajuato. Another funny story is I don’t know if any of you have ever heard of the famous "callejon del beso," or street of the kiss, but it’s a really famous story here in Mexico. Anyways, the owner of the store is one of our investigators as of this last week. (You’ll have to look up the story and read it, it’s pretty interesting) So who knows what the president will think when he sees our planner and sees that we have time scheduled for the "callejon del beso."
Anyways, my scripture for the week is D&C 10:5 “Pray always, that you may come off conqueror; yea, that you may conquer Satan, and that you may escape the hands of the servants of Satan that do uphold his work Which says that we need to pray always so that we can come off conqueror in the battle against Satan. This advice is really true. I have found that if investigators aren’t praying personally, they always end up not progressing in the end because in reality, prayer is a really important way in which we can strengthen ourselves against the adversary. Because like it says in 2 Nephi 32:8-9, “8 And now, my beloved brethren, I perceive that ye ponder still in your hearts; and it grieveth me that I must speak concerning this thing. For if ye would hearken unto the Spirit which teacheth a man to pray ye would know that ye must pray; for the evil spirit teacheth not a man to pray, but teacheth him that he must not pray.
9 But behold, I say unto you that ye must pray always, and not faint; that ye must not perform any thing unto the Lord save in the first place ye shall pray unto the Father in the name of Christ, that he will consecrate thy performance unto thee, that thy performance may be for the welfare of thy soul.”
It is the spirit of the devil that wants us to not pray and it’s because when we pray, the devil knows that he can’t have power over us. I have a really strong testimony of pray and my invitation to all of you is that you can do as Alma 37:37 says and say your night and morning prayers and I know that if you do, the devil won’t have the power to influence you (“Counsel with the Lord in all thy doings, and he will direct thee for good; yea, when thou liest down at night lie down unto the Lord, that he may watch over you in your sleep; and when thou risest in the morning let thy heart be full of thanks unto God; and if ye do these things, ye shall be lifted up at the last day”).
Anyways, know that I’m doing good here, we’re working hard and trying to bring the gospel to the people here and as well I’m happy and smiling haha

El Callejon Del Beso (The Alley of the Kiss)
This is a sad love story of two young people: Ana and Carlos. She was as beautiful and pure as an angel, about 20, lovely and single. He was handsome, about 28, tan and tall with an arrogant demeanor, adorned with the best moral qualities, hard-working, honest. With those conditions Carlos met Ana, and as soon as they saw each other, they fell in love. From that moment Carlos, went frequently in the evening to Ana’s house after work. And she, with the same feelings, stood on her balcony, beautiful as Dulcinea, white, with big and expressive eyes, in a beautiful and unique manila dress that her father gave her, so when Carlos passed by her house she gave him a beautiful smile.
So the weeks passed by, until Carlos dared to greet her and the young lady accepted his greeting with a gentle smile. The next day he started a conversation, shy at the beginning, but polite, as any courtship, after that like any couple of lovers with, love phrases and promises. They with quickly started to think of a big wedding, blessed by her mother Madame Matilde, a virtuous and dignified mother that had accepted the relationship between her daughter Ana and Carlos. But Ana’s father did not approve it, because he had already planned marry Ana to a friend of his, which was rich and lived on backing Spain. So Madame Matilde thought that the relationship between Ana and Carlos had would probably end, and she decided to tell to her husband about the casual meetings that Ana and Carlos had on Ana’s balcony.
One day Ana’s father saw the two lovers talking, and he forbade Carlos from seeing her daughter, while Ana was threatened, if she saw Carlos again, to be sent to a convent.
Neither Ana nor Carlos accepted the attitude that Ana’s father took, so Carlos decided to reestablish their relationship behind Ana’s father’s back. Carlos planned to rent a room in the house next door where there was a balcony in front of her balcony in which they could talk without being seen, so they could plan a way to escape and be happy.
So the weeks passed by, hiding their courtship from the sun. They only looked at each other in the moonlight from their balconies while Ana’s father slept. Unfortunately the tragedy came. One night Ana’s father woke up and took a knife from his bureau and in blind fury walked to the balcony of his daughter, he surprised his daughter and he buried the knife into her chest. She died in her lover’s arms in the white moonlight. Carlos took his lover’s white hand and two tears fell down. With a big kiss Carlos said good bye to his eternal love: Ana who died on the Alley of the kiss.
